Creator Te Miri Rangi designed the page as a platform as a way to explore tūpuna practices around Activity and Nutrition. See below his kōrero about his page:
In the early 19th century, the health and vitality of Māori in Aotearoa (New Zealand) was highly regarded by many early settlers and navigators. However today, that could not be further from the truth. Whakapapa Fridays (WF) seeks to revitalise the potential for Māori to thrive once again.
WF is a movement for sharing Māori knowledge and philosophies around health and wellbeing in a new and simple way. The aim is to revitalise an indigenous Māori perspective of the world, especially around health, physical activity, nutrition and general wellbeing.
Māori embrace an indigenous and holistic perspective that binds everything together within a unique genealogical framework. This framework is called 'whakapapa' (far-car-pah-pah). WF explores Māori whakapapa as the basis for understanding health and wellness from a Māori perspective.
